Stellar cast join Kevin Spacey for Netflix Gore Vidal biopic

Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man, Boardwalk Empire) will star as Gore Vidal’s companion Howard opposite multiple Oscar winner Kevin Spacey in the titular role of the upcoming Netflix biopic of the controversial wit.

Douglas Booth (Mary Shelley, Loving Vincent), Freya Mavor (The Sense of An Ending), Nikolai Kinski (Yves Saint Laurent), and Oscar nominee Griffin Dunne (Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold, War Machine) have also been added to the cast of Gore.

The screenplay has been adapted by Jay Parini (and director Michael Hoffman) from his book “Empire of Self: A Life of Gore Vidal”, centred on the period in 1982 following Gore’s failed effort in the California Senate primary election.

Netflix were pipped to the post by Hulu to become the first ever streaming service to win ‘Best drama series’ at the Emmys on Sunday. Winner The Handmaid’s Tale beat three nominated Netflix Originals in the category, including Stranger Things, The Crown and House of Cards, which also stars Kevin Spacey.
