It was so popular last year that we decided to do it again! Join us this holiday season as we introduce you to twelve of our favourite podcasts in the 12 Days of Podmas.
Supernatural was, and still is, a big deal even though it finished three years ago. It ran for fifteen seasons and a total of three hundred and twenty seven episodes, and there are still conventions for the show in the US, here in the UK, and across the rest of the world. The fandom, and the show’s cast, refer to themselves as the SPN Family rather than fans. Mark Sheppard (Supernatural, Doom Patrol) has often spoken of how he preferred this descriptor due to ‘fan’ being a shortened form of fanatic.
Here in the UK, and if you are not part of the Supernatural World, you would be forgiven for perhaps not knowing who Rob Benedict (Lucifer, Waiting) and Richard Speight Jr. (Band of Brothers, Jericho) are, but the two of them have been staples on the show for a long time, playing God and the Archangel Gabriel respectively. They have hosted conventions in the US, have had their own show, Kings of Con, and have created two of their own podcasts, And My Guest Is Richard Speight and Kings of Con. Supernatural: Then And Now is their latest foray into podcasting focusing on the show that holds a special place in their hearts.

Despite appearing in thirty odd episodes between them, with Richard also directing eleven, and attending the lion’s share of the conventions, the two of them had said that they had neve really sat down and watched the show before. All of that changed for this podcast though, in which the pair intend to watch every single episode.
Each podcast episode follows the same structure, starting off with a brief synopsis of the episode, followed by Rob and Rich’s reviews, in which they give it a rating based on how good a beard it is – be it a full Kenny Loggins or a Stapleton. You will have to listen for that to make any sense.
Other sections are Fun Facts, where they talk about connections to other shows or popular culture, and Mythology, where – you guessed it – they talk about monsters and phenomena connected with the episode. The other big draw to this podcast is the guests that they have on. Each week the two hosts talk to someone who has a connection to the show, be it a big name or guest star from the episode, or a director or set designer, and every single one has some fascinating insights and stories to share with them and us.
Rich and Rob effortlessly entertain, as they always do, and it is a lot of fun having them learn about the show that is so beloved by so many. If you are a fan of Supernatural then this is not to be missed.
Supernatural Then and Now is produced in connection with Story Mill Media and can be found wherever you get your podcasts.
