The Shape of Water: New trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s cold-war fantasy tale

Fox Searchlight have released a new Red Band Trailer ahead of the December release of acclaimed fantasy-horror director Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water.

Set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962 in a hidden high-security government laboratory, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.

The trailer reveals a close look at the sea monster with whom Elisa forms a bond, which looks like a cross between the Creature from the Black Lagoon and David Hyde Pierce’s Abe from Del Toro’s Hellboy films.

Michael Shannon appears to be at his most menacing, with a strong support cast of Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.

The film is released domestically in December, but UK audiences will have to wait until February 2018 to see The Shape of Water in cinemas unless they catch it at the London Film Festival on 10 October 2017.
