Avatar 2 to focus on the offspring of the 2009 blockbuster’s heroes

The first of four planned sequels for James Cameron’s Avatar series will focus on the children of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and the blue alien Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) according to information released to Entertainment Weekly.

The young cast includes, Britain Dalton (voice work in Uncharted 4), Filip Geljo (star of successful Canadian kids show Odd Squad) and Duane Evans Jr., who has starred in over 150 episodes of New Zealand primetime soap opera Shortland Street. They will also be joined by Jamie Flatters, Bailey Bass, Trinity Bliss, and Jack Champion.

James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi fantasy blockbuster is the highest grossing film of all time, above his 90’s romantic drama Titanic, and followed a group of humans attempting to mine the fictional unobtainium element from a peaceful alien’s home planet called Pandora. Early reports indicate that Avatar 2 will instead focus on the youth of the Na’vi tribe.

Shooting on the sequel began last month. The film is currently scheduled for release in December 2020, almost 11 years after the original broke box office records.
